9.5x24 on a 154

Has anyone ever put 9.5x24 bar tread rear tires on their 154 with a belly mower? Mine has the original Firestone "Gum Dipped" turf tires and I'd like to just use them in the winter with chains. I've got a almost new set of 9.5s and want to use them if the mower will raise up without hitting them.

I have seen ag tread tires on several number series tractors. I don't think you will have a problem at all with them.

Thanks BD. I got an almost new pair from a friend for free because he felt bad that he didn't rebuild the carb on the super a (he said he did) that I just bought. He wanted to set things right with me. He did.

Yes, that size was standard on te 154 if you ordered ag tires. The last couple 154s I've had did have the ag tires.

Thanks for the pic. I've decided I'm going to go through my 1971 154 as a project this summer. It's dressed for snowplow duty now. I know these are nothing real special, but I've worked the heck out of it for 10+ years and it deserves a retirement on the farm doing menial tasks. It has always run excellent and always had blowby. I sure would like to find a snowplow for my Super A to take over snow duty.

I'll post progress pics as I go along this summer.

Thanks Raymond. In the last ten years I've replaced the PTO clutch, drive clutch, and made a new wiring harness. I'm not sure what I am going to do about the blowby. It doesnt foul plugs, runs great, plenty of power. I may do an in frame rebuild, but I hate to touch something that runs and starts so good.

I try to follow every thread on this website, so pics from your rebuild would really interest me.

I've already have the transmission apart, back together and in primer, finals are apart now. They will be next to primer and reassemble. Then the engine, frame and sheet metal. I'll start taking photos and start a thread and post as I go.

About the blowby, I fill the tank with gas and add one can of seafoam. I also change the engine oil and add one can of seafoam. Then run it. I mow 2 acres with it. By the time it needs gas again the engine is running smoother and it even idles higher too. Were freeing the stuck piston rings and lubing the valve guides at the sametime. Every tractor i purchased so far has been sitting for 2 years + when the PO passed away. I think by letting these tractors just sit or we don't run them enough is the worst thing we can do to them. I try to run them all as much as i can. When my stepgrandson(15yo) comes over i let him drive them around the yard while my son watches him.

When these c60 engines sit the valves get sticky also. The piston rings get sticky and i believe they lose there seating. The seafoam frees stuck rings and valves. On my cub cadet adding seafoam cut down the blowby more than 75%. It had a little smoke too and thats gone too.

I purchased 11,2x24 ag's for the rear and 650-10 3 rib tires for the front of my int154 loader/backhoe project. I wanted more ground clearance for off road. I'm fitting the farmall a 10'' wide 24'' rims to the fcub rim centers.
