1000 Loader Hookup Problem
I am in the process of installing my loader on one of my Lo-Boys. I had originally installed it on a '48 Cub. It is mounted with all new hoses and all connections are made except the return line as shown at #8 in the below page from the manual and pictured in Illust. 11A. The problem lies in the difference in the threads in the TC reservoir between the two tractors. Instruction #8 recognizes and explains the two different threads and how to proceed. The only fittings that came with my loader were of the pipe thread variety and were supplemented with locally available fittings to complete the hookup as pictured in the next two pics. This worked out fine as the TC fill threads in the '48 were 3/4" pipe threads. I didn't really realize the difference in the threads until now when I went to use the same fittings for the return line. The Lo-Boy TC reservoir is the later style and is 7/8"-18 straight threads. Apparently the loaders came with the return tube with straight threads included (long since lost). At this point I have no ideal how to come out of the reservoir with the proper fittings and such in the straight threads. Any ideas out there?

Denny, Earl was making the fitting you need. I'd check with him.

Or ,you can go to the how-to forum and then check in the hydraulic section and scroll down to Jim Beckers post about making your own adaptor.

I think you should give up on finding your adapter. This is the first time I looked on McMaster Carr's website and they didn't have what I was looking for. If McMaster Carr doesn't have it, it doesn't exist.

Re: 1000 Loader Hookup Problem
I had the same problem my loader cub. I drilled a 1/2 inch hole in the filler cap then welded a fiting to that to make my own adapter.

He makes several different types. I only have a picture of this one:
I believe the one you want is one of the T shaped ones which leaves you a fill port as well as adapting threads.

Denny,
I've got one that I will be using soon, when I refurbish my 1000 and put it on another Cub. Sorry, no pics. I've got to find it!

Re: 1000 Loader Hookup Problem
Just from memory here, I think I used a 90 degree elbow right out of the tc and then a standard 5/8s or 3/4 heater hose fitting and a hose clamp for mine. Got all the parts from the local napa for under 20 bucks.
48 cub with full cultivators
48 cub all original 6 volt, hand crank, muffler, front + rear wheel weights, and fast hitch and a 1000 loader
Left hand plow, right hand plow, disc, grader/snow blade, lots of cultivator stuff, woods 42, and a few others

Later mode T/C's have different threads though.

I know the later ones were different, but napa had the fittings when I did mine. They have everything you need.

Re: 1000 Loader Hookup Problem
The problem is there are no fittings out there with a 7/8-18 thread...

Re: 1000 Loader Hookup Problem
Regardless of what size the threads are, napa here locally had plenty of them. When I got my loader from Boss Hog, the fitting on his tractor was the smaller one. Well I went to install it on my tractor and to my surprise the fitting fell in the hole sorta speak. It was much smaller and left me puzzled. I didn't realize that there were different size fittings on these. I took my plug from the touch control down to napa, asked for a reducer to a 3/4 size thread, then from there done a elbow in 3/4 with a male on one side and female on other. From the elbow I just screwed in the appropriate size fitting heater hosed nipple, commonly used for on intakes of cars and truck, and then slid the return line on that with two hose clamps. Worked out perfect. Just my case. Yours could be different but I could duplicate my setup 100 times with ease. It's worth a shot to just take your plug down to your local parts supplier and see what they have. You might just luck out
Edit: Sorry, Went to the garage and looked at the situation again, I mis interpeted the whole problem here. The 7/8-18 thread is smaller than the 3/4 pipe fitting even though being marked a bigger size. I would still say to check around with a good supplier and maybe a hydraulic shop. They have a lot of fittings in many sizes. It's worth a shot
All in all I hope ya find what you need

Chris, the 7/8-18 is measured OD while the plumbing fixtures are measured ID. Why, who knows?
Yep, the old '48 system I had no problem with. Found everything I needed in the plumbing aisle. The '60 Lo-Boy has the 7/8-18 thread and no one carries anything. As suggested by Bill and Rick and pictured by Big Dog, all I had to do was contact Earl Fauble. He makes the adapter himself and I have one on the way. When that comes all I have to do to finish it off is go back to the plumbing aisle.
