My taters are growing

Postby Former Member » Wed Feb 01, 2012 8:03 pm

I was asked by my lovely wife to "look at" our kenebeck's.

This is what I found.

We keep them in the baskets in our mud room with no supplied heat. Coverd with a cloth to keep them dark. They have all sprouted like this.

Guese we need to try something different next year.

The chlorophyll in the shoots indicates that they were getting sunlight from somewhere.

Dale, If your mud room includes that chest freezer you do have supplied heat.

Good Bill, I will bring them down in a couple weeks. Ya better get the bed ready. They are no longer good for eating and I hate for them to go to waste.

Keep the sprouts picked off and keep them at near 32 degrees as possible without actually freezing them!---also keep them dark.---Right now knock off the sprouts and use the wilted spuds!---they still taste good, fry good, mash good!!!
Ours get turned from box to box every 2 weeks while in storage, which helps keep the sprouting process confused too! thanks; sonny
