Lifters

Postby twotone » Sat Feb 04, 2012 4:33 pm

Well, I have the 154 pretty much in a million pieces. Engine looked pretty good, had 1 broken ring but no damage to cyl wall. My lifters have a pretty good amount of pitting and was wondering what is acceptable, and I don't want to buy a used set in the same condinion. Should I use these or get better ones? Thanks

Pitted on the lobe face or on the sides?

On the lobe face, sides look fine.

I'd replace them. At best the surface hardness is chipping away and they'll only get worse quickly.

y older valve grinder had an attachment for resurfacing the lifters. Unless there really bad. Make sure you install them with some moly on them. It will reduce the first start up wear that happens too.
I'm technically misunderstood at times i guess its been this way my whole life so why should it change now.

I just gave them a hand lapping. You can really see a difference. Lubriplate no. 105 on everything. This is somewhat of a budget rebuild. Nothing was bad enough to replace except the wear parts- bearings and rings, nothing was broken except for 1 ring. I've been dealing with a certain machine shop for 35+ years so they know me well and don't try to sell me anything I don't need. Crank bearings were all at .002 and we'll see what the rods and rings look like when I get them. I will order them tomorrow from TM.
