Log carrier?

I have an opportunity to buy this old implement .


It is being called a log carrier but how does it work? I could use a log carrier as I have tons of logs in the yard still. I could also make into a large trailer for the cub to hold hay for rides and so on.

Anyone have any input ? It's a good price btw. Hard to pass up.

it can be whatever you want it to be, but it's definately not a log arch, yet, lol. The flat iron on the front looks like where a wooden tongue would go, but the round rod and other parts on the axle are a puzzle to me.

Just my opinion. If you want to build a Cub sized trailer, get a boat trailer or something with rubber tires and good bearings. That way you can use it with the Cub and then behind a pickup.

I like the look of an older trailer for the tractor. I have 3 road trailers as it is now. If I build a trailer out of this it would be for fun not really for work.

The true logging wheel or Michigan wheel because of their first use here or several other names, are at least 10 feet high. By lifting the tongue the attach point above the axle is lowered slightly and the log is attached. Whe the tongue is lowered the end of the log is lifted off the ground and the tongue attached to the team for skidding out. Vern

Do a search for "Logging ATV" There are many logging arches and carts used with quads that size match well with a Cub.

I have to agree with Jim its a front axle for a horse drawn grader. The axle is upside down right now. The bar across it should be on the bottom and is a brace to keep the axle from bending. The center piece that the frame would bolt to has set screws so you can set it off center to get the grader off to the side and down in a ditch.

I use a landscape trailer too but its 7' wide which is too wide for the wooded paths behind my home.
I've been thinking about keeping an eye out for a small boat trailer which are about 5' wide. Being long it'd probably work well for logs.
I was thinking of using it for hauling canoes and kayaks back from the river too.

Hey Chris , small world. The people sent me a good amount of photos, I just want to find out what it really is lol. I was wanting to go pick it up this weekend but I have a lot to do and our email communication is slow between each other haha.

I really just love old stuff.
