Rudi I would like to have one of those old hand cranked wet stones. John what exactly is an angle gindit? Guys I think that Paul needs to get one of these 582S, it will grow on him!
When your sharpening your mower blades how much do you worry about balance, that is taking more off one blade than another in an effort to get that nasty nick out?

I use the same type grinder as John to sharpen mower blades. I have one of the cheap balancing gizmos.
Rocks and Missouri. Big dings I leave alone - I don't try to sharpen them out. I sharpen the blade until most of it is sharp, then balance. This is for mowers used on the acreage. The house lawnmower, I do a better job of sharpening - don't have the rock problem.

I'm really milking this thread
Anyway, that is what I have always used what I call a side or angle grinder, sorry John I thought you were referring to some new fandagled thing! I have found that a back up pad and a heavy grit sanding disc will do a nice job as well.
How does one go about getting the correct paint codes and new decals for the 582 S? Mine is Red with cream rims? I know the decal kits for the Cubs are available but I have not seen anything for this vintage Cadet.

The red is the same as the Farmall/IH 2150 red, the white is IH 935 white, both available from a Case IH dealer (Case New Holland or CNH to be correct), or both can be mixed by automotive paint dealers. The IH 935 white is the only tractor white available from Case IH. The earlier IH901 and IH902 white's must be mixed by auto paint dealers.
Some Cub Cadet decals are available from Cub Cadet or CNH, but I am not sure about the 582S. Ckeck with Ken Updike at http://www.cngco.com/
