Where was it made?
There are often posts about what country something was made in. This afternoon I picked up a lamp socket. The label said: "Articles made in either USA, Canada, Germany, Japan, China, Korea, Taiwan". I guess you get to take your pick.

Re: Where was it made?
Free Trade probably -- I don't mind USA or Canada being combined ........ but the others well
I know that there is a deal in the works between the US and Canada -- products made in either country will be labeled made in North America ... excluded Mexico however.

I sure wish we could get back to making things here, though I doubt it will ever happen.

Re: Where was it made?
I tend to be a label reader to see where things are made. I do have some preferences. The label I liked was on a Bosch bandsaw blade "Made in USA from foreign parts". Since the only "making" is welding the ends together this would have to be that they are buying coils of saw blade somewhere, then welding them and stamping them Made in USA. I prefer Olson blades but have to order their bandsaw blades which are US made but can buy locally their scroll saw blades which are either US or German. Germany makes good steel but Chinese made blades tend to cut two inches then want to cut in circles for me. Our government thinks we should use CFC light bulbs (we do) but have you ever found one not made in China? We are being told to buy them I guess so as to send more money for us to borrow to throw away. Vern

We do make things here, my fathers company builds parts for 5 major sports medicine machine makers all US companies, recently they started making robotic bionic hands for veterans that lost hands in Iraq. Those hands have brain triggered sensors in the fingertips that allow the user to know how much pressure they are exerting on something. They make all kinds of really cool stuff. Let the Chinese make plastic knick knacks, cheap saw blades and other stuff that falls apart in 2 months use.
And look at all the tool companies that make stuff here, Snap On, Williams, Mac, Matco, Craftsman, S-K (which is back again)!
There's plenty of manufactoring and as the wages rise in China and the price of shipping rises more companies will return to the states to make stuff.

Re: Where was it made?
I just bought two red lens bullet lights off *bay for a couple of rear taillight/worklight conversions. The package arrived and the lights had a sticker on them reading "Made in Japan."
Forty years ago, that would probably not been a good thing, but seeing how Japanese quality is higher than most other countries now-a-days, I considered it good.

Re: Where was it made?
The statement "Assembled in the United States" tends to fool a lot of people into thinking the product was "Made" in the U.S. This is ususally seen in packaged goods like carb kits and such. It typically means the individual parts are probably made in other countries but the kit itself was assembled here.
There are two ways to get enough Cubs. One is to continue to accumulate more and more. The other is to desire less.

Since my department is required to buy as much American made products as possible, we had heard this also, however I have found that is not totally true. Here is what I found some time back http://www.snopes.com/politics/business/barcodes.asp. Just to be sure, I just checked again and found it is still on Snopes.

Yeah, I've seen items that the production (and thus the "Made In XXX") moved from one country to another. The bar code stayed the same.

Re: Where was it made?
The only people we have to blame for the made in china, etc. stickers are us. We want the cheapest items we can get. ow many times have you looked at several items and selected the cheapest one. Of course there is plenty of blame to go around. There are many companies that are buying imported items and selling for the same price they did the same item made in the U.S. so they can make more profit.
