Fairbanks-Morse Gen
Can anyone direct me to any info on this unit?? Have searched the internet from end to end w/no results! It is 2 cal, water cooled, cast iron radiator shell, a 3KW generator on the back, not stuck, But NO luck in info on it! Markings - DE W36-550, Ser. # 118.397003. DC 16 V 10 Amp. Any ideas as to age, value, parts source, etc. would be greatly appreciated! Thanks[*]

Above site has several posts on fairbanks-morse generator sets.
What I do on something like this is to join the board. Ask questions. Pick their brains.

Re: Fairbanks-Morse Gen
I have a unit that is very similar to yours, although mine is a DC type generator, 32vdc I believe. Voltage is adjustable to a certain extent. It is a Onan engine with an FM generator.
When I got it about 1988, it was minus the magneto. A counterclockwise rotating magneto to be exact. Back then, before the internet, after lots of reading and phone calling and begging guys to look for mags for me~ I found a guy who wheeled and dealed and repaired mags. I called him and explained what I needed- a 2 cylinder CCW magneto. CW magnetos were a dime a dozen- maybe even a nickle- but CCW mags were non-existent as far as I could tell.
Luckily, he had one of them. $180 as is, or $250 r-t-r. I whined enough that he finally said he'd go thru it and get it in top shape and sell it to me for the lower price!
If I get a round to-it, I could take a picture of it so you can see what it looks like.

Re: Fairbanks-Morse Gen
Dusty, as to your not being able to register on smokstak it might be your e-mail provider not the password. I don't remember off hand if there is any criteria for passwords but I do know that some e-mail providers are blocked because of to much spam and hacker use. I think that the problem is that some of these providers don't provide enough security of their own. I know that my e-mail (hotmail) is on the short list and may be blocked at any time now.

Your password might be in use by someone else, try adding a few numbers to it.
Best,
