Heartwarming lawyer story

[Bus Driver]

One afternoon a lawyer was riding in his limousine
when he saw two men along the road-side eating grass.

Disturbed, he ordered his driver to stop and got out to investigate.

He asked one man, "Why are you eating grass?"

"We don't have any money for food," the poor man replied. "We have to eat grass."

"Well, then, you can come with me to my house and I'll feed you," the lawyer said.

"But sir, I have a wife and two children with me. They are over there, under that tree."

"Bring them along," the lawyer replied.

Turning to the other poor man he stated, "You may come with us, also."
The second man, in a pitiful voice, then said, "But sir,
I also have a wife and SIX children with me!"

"Bring them all as well," the lawyer answered.

They all entered the car, which was no easy task,
even for a car as large as the limousine was.

Once under way, one of the poor fellows turned
to the lawyer and said, "Sir, you are too kind."


"Thank you for taking all of us with you.

The lawyer replied, "Glad to do it.
"You'll really love my place.
"The grass is almost a foot high."—


you really didn't think there was such a thing

Don't much like that one. So how about this one:

Lawyer's young sister-in-law is deserted by her husband, shortly after she gives birth to their fourth child.

Lawyer drives 300 miles on a weeknight, picks up the sister-in-law and kids, and brings them home with him. Proceeds to take care of all five in addition to his own family for the next thirty years, because they are family.

Don't like that one? How about this one:

Lawyer learns he has lung cancer. Even though he should retire to fight the cancer, he keeps working, serving his clients--figures he has enough fight left for his illness and to protect his clients.

Fights the cancer for 18 months, enduring brutal treatments, but never--and I mean NEVER--complains about how awful he feels. On the eve of his 42nd year taking care of his clients, he prepares for his last day at work--no party, no celebration.

On that last day in practice, his grand daughter accompanies him to three separate court appearances for his clients, because he isn't strong enough to roll himself in his wheelchair. He prevails on behalf of all three clients, but two of them never pay their bill.

Exhausted, the lawyer finally succumbs to his illness and pain, but only tells his grand daughter that he thinks its time to retire. A few months later he dies in a hospice surrounded by his loving family, all but forgotten by the thousands and thousands of ungrateful souls he has helped across three generations.

How many reach out to say thanks? Two.

Let me introduce you to my father in law, Fred A. Gilbert. May he rest in peace, and take no more calls from greedy, self-centered, rude, and unthankful clients.

Corky, I am sorry you got upset about the joke, lawyers are people just like the rest of us. Some are good and try to help people, and some care absolutely nothing about their clients, just their pockets, just like those in other professions. I am a telephone man and we have the same thing, I can give you examples of both, but his is not the place for it. the thing about lawyers is they are much more in the public eye, especially with the modern electronic media.

I honestly feel Bus Driver meant no animosity. It is truly nice to hear GOOD stories about Lawyers. Unfortunately, as John mentioned, all we get are the bad stories/sides of the legal profession

You are all correct, and I hope you'll accept my apologies for over reacting. I guess the joke caught me at a bad time--been thinking alot about my father in law lately, and bam...sorry.

Charles, we all have our bad moments and little things tend to light our fuse. You have memories of things past and you want (need) to hold on to those. As a government employee I have heard my share of the government jokes. Even I have said "Looks good for goverment work" when completing a project. Don't ever worry about the trivia in life when you have more important things to tend to. You know as well as I do that life can always throw a curve. Take that pitch and move on.

That is completely understandable Charles. several years back while I was working in West Plains we were planning a trip home, and I had been thinking about that I needed to put flowers on our daughter's grave while we were there, and also it was the anniversary of my best friends death from cancer, and right then I got a phone call telling me that the wife of a close friend also had cancer and was not expected to live long. I started outside the office of the warehouse to get some air, but as I opened the inner door, it hit my foot and rebounded, and at that point I lost control and drove both fists through the door clear to my elbows. I took the rest of the day off. Believe me, I understand what you are saying.
