I came across this video yesterday and tought I would share it with you..... It is sad but thankfully it looks like the guy is survived but let this be a consistant reminder to you all who like to drive your tractors down the road also be checking behind you never know what idiot playing on thier phone or radio and not being courteous to the people they share the road with. Expecially people on small farm tractors.....

Take note that there was NO SMV sign on the tractor. Not saying it would have prevented this accident. But, it couldn't have hurt.

Re: WOW! SAD! SCARY!!
I get the impression this vehicle was traveling at night since there was mention of the lights still on. If that was the case and coupled with not having a SMV sign as Don mentioned, then this was a disaster waiting to happen. It is hard to judge speed and distance at night and an approaching vehicle could easily find itself tangled with farm machinery pretty quickly.
This video really shows the risk a person takes when on the road.

There are two ways to get enough Cubs. One is to continue to accumulate more and more. The other is to desire less.

Re: WOW! SAD! SCARY!!
From the posts off another video of the same accedent he did have a SMV along with his road light. The lady did not have her cars lights on and did not see him until it was too late.... ( posibility she may have been drunk?) worst thing is he was only about 40 feet or less from turing on to his drive.

Re: WOW! SAD! SCARY!!
Having been a professional accident investigator for 19 years there seems to be a ton of factors that caused that woman to collide with the tractor. The pics seem to indicate a time just before dusk. If she relied on her automatic lights to come that is one factor. POP or point of perception is the time in which a driver reacts to a situation. The average reaction time of an average person is @1.5 seconds. Factor that with the speed of the roadway or the speed of vehicle and it doesnt take long to cover a short distance, and from the look of things...she definitely was not as alert as she should have been. From the POI or Point of Impact, he must have been slowing down and getting ready to turn. I would love to get a copy of that investigation to add to my collection for use in training courses. Her skid marks, if she had any would indicate her minimum speed. From the look of the tractor, there was a massive transfer of energy, but without seeing the car that hit the tractor, it is really hard to tell much about her speed or anything along those lines. Its not like a 140 was designed with CRUSH ZONES. I saw someone had posted a very nice umbrella bracket that would also work very nice to hold a pole with a strobe and connect it to the electrical system for road use. Driver inattention is the number one cause for crashes, not matter what vehicles are involved.
If anyone wants to see a great video of how far we have come in vehicle design check this video out.
