Stanton, that is an amazing restoration. I really like the way you painted it, even though the correct police would not approve. I like the blue hydraulics and the white wheels. I've been thinking of painting my '48 in an unconventional way also.

Paint choices:

Red -- IHCase 2150 alkyd enamel; straight, no thinner; HVLP spray gun.
Blue -- Ace Hardware, International Blue; spray can.
White -- Ace Hardware, Almond Gloss; spray can.

I like the Rust-Stop Machine and Implement spray paint at Ace Hardware. Great nozzle (vertical/horizontal adjustment), extra capacity cans (15 oz. vs. 12 oz.) and goes on smooth.

One of the best restores I've ever seen, on both devices. And I will attempt to copy that gas cap. Did you rob the workings from a boat gas tank or something close? I suppose similar depth of tank is the main criteria....

Stanton, I agree with you about the ACE paint. I have only used the blue for my C-22 mower. My paint job looks like a pro has done it, due to the spray can tip and how the paint flows on. If they could figure out how to make it harder and more durable, it would be a first class paint.

Very nicely done! Couple questions on the post hole digger that may have been talked about already but I missed:

1. Does the chain go over the sprocket on the PTO and is just unattached in the photos?

2. What do the springs on the sprocket do?

Answers:
1. Yes. The chain I received with the PHD was too short. Bought a #60 roller chain last evening at farm/home store, shortened it to length, and got it running--runs very smooth.
2. The springs are a part of the slip clutch (in lieu of a sheer pin). When the auger contacts an immovable object while digging, the slip clutch is supposed to allow the PTO to keep turning w/o putting undue force on the PHD/tractor. This allows the operator to disengage the PTO and check it out.
