Japanese BeetleI just took a look around my garden and it is infested with Japanese beetles. These little buggers have caused some damage. I gave them a nice drink of Liquid Sevin and I sure hope it works. I've never seen them so bad.

Re: Japanese BeetleSeven has worked for me in the past. Guess we will see them here in a couple weeks since we are north of you.

Re: Japanese BeetleTed, do you spray your plum trees with Sevin? Mine look good so far, but I'm sure they're headed there, sense I closed the garden snack bar for them.

Re: Japanese BeetleIn all of your spraying, do not forget the Japanese (Asian) beetle traps. They normally consist of a scent lure and a plastic bag with a funnel opening that they cannot fly back out of. In the height of the season they have to be emptied every few days. The bad part is that the beetles in large numbers, especially when they start dying really stink. It smells like dirty diapers. I just empty them into a trash bag and put them in with regular trash .

Re: Japanese BeetleDont put the traps on your property. put them on someone else's. It get them off your property.

Re: Japanese BeetleThw nearest "someone elses property" is 1/4 mile away. That would be great if I could get away with it.

Re: Japanese BeetleTom. Yes, I spray it all with Seven. Last year I took several beetles to a nursery, they told me seven was the answer. Seemed to work well on the trees, they sere really leaded. I used a 4 gallon sprayer I bought at TSC for $48 and then saw the same one on sale at Harbor Freight for half the price the next day. Ted
Re: Japanese BeetleI'm going to have a bigger sprayer for sure. I finally got the ones in my corn, but they put up a good fight.

Re: Japanese BeetleWell, Now a different kind of beetle in all my pumpkins. Little, yellow, with stripes down their back. I get them every year mostly in my pumpkins, but they like corn silks too. I gave them all a drink early this morning and that Sevin works real good on these. Lots of dead beatles in my garden now.

Re: Japanese BeetleJapanese beetles are the only insect I know of that will eat the leave on okra plants. Not only are they the only ones that will eat okra leaves, but they seem to prefer them.

Re: Japanese Beetle
No insecticide is 100% effectiive. There is always a small percentage that could about drink it and survive. A problem arises when two of these mate and produce more some of which will be imune. I believe it is best to occasionally spray with a different type. I suggest Ortho's Bug-Be-Gon. It can be hard to find. It is broad spectrum and somewhat persistent so watch clearance times.
