Tolland County 4H Fair - Lawn & Garden Tractor Pull 2012

Postby Peter Person » Mon Aug 13, 2012 8:55 pm

My 2nd son Aron (17) has been part of the Tolland County 4H Piston Pushers Club for 6 years now is currently Club President as well as a member of the Fair Board. He has had a busy couple of weeks along with all the other youth involved. Saturday was the "BIG" day, i.e. the Tractor Pull at the 70th annual Tolland County 4H Fair, the highlight of the year for many of the boys and girls in the club.

This year they had the new flat bottomed steel stone boat and 150lb "stones", 8" x 8" x 36" concrete blocks.
The Pulling Pad was built 2 years ago and was made using a ballfield clay/sand mix. It packs down real nice.

Aron finished 3rd, pulling 4,750lbs for a distance of 11".
Here he is early on pulling 1,950lbs with his 1965 Cub Cadet 100, a tractor that several of you are familiar with. He completely rebuilt the engine last year and got his drive train done this year, so this was his first time pulling. This is a straight 10hp Kohler, no special cranks, pistons, etc.

Here is a video of him pulling 2,850lbs;

The winner pulled 5,000lbs for a distance of 132" using a Bolens 1050 repowered with a Wisconsin 2 cylinder. Jonathan has put a ton of time and effort into this project over the last 2 years.

This is what the sled looked like at 5,000lbs minus the 10,000lb ratchet strap holding the stones to the sled. The kids need to make another 10 stones.

A lot of fun and imagination.

Nice job Grease Monkey aka Aron! Lot of kid pullers around here and it is interesting to see some of the tractors they build.
