Re: Continental Belton KA-5 MOW-R RebuidGreat post i have this same mower on my cut down farmall b the right spindle just froze up and with your post i have been able to remove spindle and order the pnew bearing but how do i getp the old busted bearing off ive tried and tried and wont budge any help would be great thanks
Re: Continental Belton KA-5 MOW-R RebuidGlad you were able to benefit from this post!.....I was able to just drive mine off with a drift pin......sounds like you have a bit bigger issue. Is it the race that you are having problems with or the tapered roller bearing portion? if it is the TRB what I would suggest is maybe a cut-off wheel to remove the sleeve from the spindle...but be very carefull not to go too deep. If it is the races i wouldn't know what to use other than a drift pin.

Re: Continental Belton KA-5 MOW-R RebuidFor the race on the shaft, cut the bearing cage and remove it and the rollers, then cut the race about halfway through. Place a fairly large cold chisel in the cut and whack it with a hammer. It should break like glass. I had one I had to cut 2 places 180 apart.
On the cup in the housing - I used a trick I found here - welding a bead in the center of the cup all around. Cup darned near fell out. Sounds like the Continental is a little easier than the Woods spindles.
Re: Continental Belton KA-5 MOW-R RebuidThanks for the help i cut it half way threw or more and hit it and ityou poped right off without any damage to the spindle
Re: Continental Belton KA-5 MOW-R RebuidI started taking the other spindle apart last night ....and low and behold ....different nut size. I don't have many large sockets (>1") so I had to go out and purchase a 1 1\16 impact socket to remove the first spindle......this one is 1 1\8th!!! I knew I should have just look for a large set....oh well back to get another...
Bubbaobait......what size do you have on the spindles? both 1 1\8? or both 1 1\16? Charles Patek III

Re: Continental Belton KA-5 MOW-R RebuidYes, socket sets get really expensive $12 at a time. I have a 1-3/8 to go with a 1-1/2, 32 mm, and 36 mm - all for very specific jobs that I ran across. They make really good seal setters, though....
Re: Continental Belton KA-5 MOW-R RebuidI was able to sandblast and powder coat one of the spindle housings last night.....here are some pictures.
Cooking: Done: I need to touch up the bottom a bit....since I shot it on a table top I couldn't see the underside very well so I didn't get much powder on hte underside. Charles Patek III

Re: Continental Belton KA-5 MOW-R RebuidI received my seals yesterday got the from KSC Direct (http://kscdirect.com/item/NAT%2B473228/ ... 15142%250A) for just over $4 a piece. Now I just have to finish powder coating the rest of the mower and then put everything back together. Getting kinda excited to see the finished product.....except I am undecided about what color I should use for the main deck. Should I use the Continental Belton Green or should I use IH Red??? What do you guys think?

Re: Continental Belton KA-5 MOW-R RebuidCharles:
There are lots of Red mowers under Cubs but very few green ones. Course, for an IH fan green usually indicates a competitor's brand, but in this case it is actually an OEM supplier's signature colour. So if you can get the perfect match (and if you do let me know what the paint code is) I would paint it CB Green but that is JIMHO. Re: Continental Belton KA-5 MOW-R RebuidCharles, looking good! Interesting thread on the powder coating, I love your commitment!
With the detail you are going to rebuilding this mower I would have to vote for the Continental green, would be a nice contrast to highlight it. But that is just my opinion. I am sure which ever way you go it will look great! Keep up the good work, David
Re: Continental Belton KA-5 MOW-R RebuidThanks guys.....I have decided to go with the green.....Looks like Prismatic Powders has an "Altered Green" (http://www.prismaticpowders.com/uploade ... b-4947.jpg) that seems pretty close to CB green. What do you think?

Re: Continental Belton KA-5 MOW-R RebuidLooks good to me. I would definitely go with the factory green color. But then, I'm one for going with the factory colors of things.
