My First Lowboy
Well, I bought another cub today. I know that my wife will be very proud of me, because this one is a lowboy, and I did not have one of these. This one is in poor shape, I bought it from a guy that got it at the scrap yard. The serial number is close to the end of production for the regular lowboy #25454 which would make it a 1968 model. Don't be to hard on me for not posting any pictures, I have not gotten home with it yet, and will not get home till after midnight ( another thing that the wife will be proud of).

A perfectly good reason, in my opinion. I often use that one also.

I have the perfect one for you for your second. Just put the 59 on it tonight to start its rehab and mowed about 1/2 acre with it.
Can't let go of the 59 though...I've become quite attached to it....

Re: My First Lowboy
Well here is the pic that I said that I would post I hope you have a strong stomach tonight. Remember that it was in a scrap yard ready to be sent to china to be sent back as a cheap tool. I have not took it off of the trailor yet, because I thought that I could see what could be saved first. It looks like someone abused it in its young life, but maybe not for long. There is a crack in the block, three guesses where the crack is, and the first two don't count. They had stripped the threads in the carburator where the bolts attach it to the manifold, so they had used a pair of vicegrips to hold the carb. The radiator, and rear light was gone, but I think that every thing is there.
When I was checking every thing out, I tried to turn the engine over, and it was free. Then I removed a spark plug to check for compression, and there was compression. So I cleaned the points put on another carb, and after several tries the cub came to life. It smoked for a few seconds from the oil that I had put in the cylinder, but cleared up and ran well. It is a shame that the block is cracked, I think that the engine is in fair to good shape. The touch control also works, so I think that there will be some good parts if I don't try to save the whole thing
There is a C2 mower on it also, that seems to be solid with nothing locked up, or welded up. For scrap price I think that the mower could almost pay of the cub if I don't save the cub as a whole.
Sorry for the long winded post, but wanted to let you all know my thoughts.

Ray:
That isn't too bad for scrap price. Hmmm C-2 mower. Thanks for the pic of the tag. I am wondering if you could take a really good one of the C-2 tag so Tim aka tst might be able to make up overlays for the tag. Mine is missing the tag.
You probably did good. If you don't rebuild it, this is a great candidate to keep a bunch of other Cubs running. Lot better than coming back as different tools or maybe cookie tins... Glad you were able to save it

Re: My First Lowboy
Here are some pics of other scrapyard saves from the same area, There were 19 Shank holders, 11 shanks, 2 fertilizer boxes, 2 combine seed boxes, 4 planter runners, 6 cotton seed base, 1 set of super c cultivators, 4 seed box drives or counter shaft, 2 fertilizer drives, several seed plates, and 4 disk hillers. All of this was headed to the scrap yard.
