Woods 42 mower skids

I recently had to "steal" the skids off my unmounted Woods 42 to replace broken ones on my Woods 59 on my SA. Now that my '55 Cub is almost out of the hospital, I need to get the skids replaced. Anyone have a pair of these in good shape?

New replacements are more than that current price per skid. Contact a CASE/IH dealer that still distributes Woods mower parts and you can get a ballpark figure. A new Woods 42 mower deck alone costs over 2K.

last I heard, new ones are around $75 each. If yours has worn through on the bottom, get a piece of an old leaf spring and weld to it, or take to a welding shop.

I had mine made. I used the original mounting plates and replaced the skid part

Woods part numbers 4141 and 4142 - I need some too or repair the worn out ones I have.

They normally had been running about $40-45 each for new ones - not too ugly a price.

The guy in the listing for that pair is an upright guy - bought my 54A off him and he's usually pretty good on his prices.

He's the one who bought a large batch of stuff last year at the Bash from Ralph when he was liquidating.

I am pretty sure the IH ones will fit too. I think they are all pretty interchangeable, my C-2 has Deutz ones on it and they fit perfectly.

New ones from CaseIH are $70 and $54. Guess the left one wears out more often???

Last time I was at JP's a few months ago they had several sets of skids as well as a bunch of assorted decks. Don't remember what condition but it might be worth inquiring if there is a decent set and the price.

The trick is NOT to run it with them on the ground all the time !!!!!!
wield a plate to the bottom and keep mowing, make sure it is curved upward at both ends

I know better than to run the mower with the skids on the ground...they were badly worn when I got the Woods 59 with my SA. First I hit a post with the right one, and the skid was so badly worn and rusted it bent like a pretzle. I keep having to remind myself that unlike the 42, the 59 is wider than the wheel width!!! Then I was running over rough fields and the left one simply broke off the vertical section! They were both like swiss cheese! I am now waiting to "find" the other half of that skid somewhere out in the field, as I didn't even notice it was gone until I parked the SA.

I will check with JP's and see what they have. It's not a real pressing matter, because the '52 Cub has a 42 under it, and the SA has the now-repaired 59 under it. I just do not want an incomplete piece of equipment. Thanks all.

That's what I always thought too Larry, they actually look almost identical. I always thought they were made by the same factory because of that fact.
