Re: 420 John Deere
2010 Valu-Bilt catalog lists piston/rebore sets and ring sets for the 420, 430, 440 engine and +.045 bore.
Since Valu-Bilt lists the pistons, they are available.
Forget calling. You frequently know more about the tractor and wanted parts than the person answering the phone. The needed parts are probably not listed in their computer.
My suggestion is to Walk in the auto parts store where they know your face and ask. Next stop would be another auto parts store, any tractor dealership and John Deere dealership. -- Some place where they will take the time to look the parts up in their catalogs.
Any good machine shop can also obtain the parts. If they want to do the research.

Re: 420 John Deere
It may be that Valu-Bilt/ CT Farm and Country is offering discounts on orders for those who first request the 2012 catalog. They do show pistons sets in standard 4 1/4", +.045, +090 and +.125.
Given the price and value of those engine blocks, if the +.045 will not clean up the bore, I would have the block sleeved.

Luck favors those who are prepared

Re: 420 John Deere
Glad you found the parts!---They are getting harder, and harder to find every year!---I have a 420 that has loader and backhoe for it,---think its a 1956! great little tractor, real handy for lighter jobs!---like all small guys, it has limits! thanks; sonny

Sonny i realize this is an IH website but if the diehard IH fans ever plowed bottom land on a cool fall night and listened to that putt-putt sound we might have a few converts.but when it comes time to plant and cultivate the little cubbie can't be beat.
