IH 1000 Loader Forks

I have been wanting to fab a set of forks for my loader, but wasn't finding any "cheap" forklift forks to start the project.
My brother was up a couple weeks ago and we were talking and he said "why do they have to be those type forks...they are so overbuilt for your purposes, why not just use something else".

So, we start wandering around the place and found some more steel pipe like I used for my boom pole,

and decided to give that a shot.
A couple hours later we had the rough idea together.

It lifts really well and is very convenient.
All my implements and 'stuff' will now be put on pallets and I can move it all around without always getting on and off the loader.
I painted them white for high visibility.

Really wish my brother lived closer...who knows what kinds of projects we would be making.

Nice job. It looks like a loader really comes in handy sometimes. Now if only Ray would get his done and on a tractor lol.

That steel water pipe welded into the fittings isn't the strongest thing in the world. It likes to split at the threads, even underneath a layer of weld.

As long as you don't try to lift a huge amount it should hold up okay, though.

Looks real nice Dave. I'm sure that will be very handy to have. Did you weld the pipe joints? (I'm sure you did.) What kind of weight will that handle? I like the pole boom too.

I got a cheap 3-point carry-all from Northern Tool and modified it to fit on the loader. I can't find the thing on Northern's web site, but it was similar to this one at Agri-Supply:

I needed to drill a few holes and make a couple small brackets. It is all bolted together so it can be converted back for 3-point with little effort. The one thing about it is that it is pretty flexible and can twist. You need to keep fairly even loads on both sides. If I want to lift something with a chain, I need to make a piece that will lay across both sides so the chain can hang from the center. I haven't used it much, but so far it seems to do all I expect of it.
