Not like me to be short of projects.... So when I ordered parts for the right angle pulley I also ordered the top spindle sheave bushing. Essentially it is a large bronze bushing that runs on the over-running clutch inner piece in the center of the cast sheave.
The top pulley was very sloppy and I quit using the mower because the belt would heat up. I am hoping this $47 part will cure the problem. It fits perfectly over the spindle and I hope to keep it that way.
Any suggestions about removing and re-installing a large bushing would be appreciated.... I have a nice press and was thinking I could use the new bushing to press out the old one, but am leery about ruining a pricey part. I doubt anything I have will be the right dimension to push the old one out. For now I will Kroil the old one and finish working on the other mower (Cub right angle gearbox).
Thanks!

Hi Larry, I would not use the new bushing for fear of damage. I use sockets when removing old bushings. DaveB.

Larry, I agree with DaveB. You could damage that busing. Were you able to find the bearing to finish your right angle drive rebuild? GaryGP

Re: C-2 Mower Spindle Pulley Bushing Replacement
Turns out the bushing is against a stop/lip, so it will only go out one way. I have sockets that will work for the install, but not sure what to use to get the old one out. Busted some chunks off with a punch, but no movement.
I am not one to give up easy, but the the right angle pulley is back together with the original bearing (Hyatt 1204 T). Just cannot find one anywhere. I got a bearing that was supposed to work without the ring, but the rollers are too big. Now the PTO shaft U Joint is also giving me problems.... L6N1F is different than an L6N. I will try a driveshaft shop soon... Thanks for your help with it Gary.
I can get away without mowing the fort again this year, but really would like to mow the new turf at the redoubt if I could.
There is a Cub with a tranny almost together that is not amused by my side projects!

LOL!! I've got a cub with the tranny back together waiting on the tins to get finished up. Doesn't look happy. There is a Cub with a tranny almost together that is not amused by my side projects!
The fact that you have the replacement bushing is great seeing that the old one is being trashed to get out. If it doesn't look rusted in, just driven in tight, find a cheap large can of compressed air, shake it good, invert it, and spray the bushing. It may shrink enough to get it out. My kids did a lot of paintball and I use CO2, invert the bottles, and spray the liquid CO2 to get things out. Had a bearing race that wouldn't budge, worked great.
I'll check on that Ujoint for you. Which one is the one you need? Gary

Glad you got the Gear Box back together. Me -- not yet. No time. Been running like chicken with head cut off. Be nice to have some quality bench time in the pole barn.

Can you get a hacksaw blade in the old bushing to saw through it, then peel it out with a chisel/screwdriver?

Re: C-2 Mower Spindle Pulley Bushing Replacement
I will try the freeze off and then a hacksaw... tried a punch last night and got nowhere (but did get some chunks).
This was supposed to be a quick change of the spindle (have an ebay 'spare') but as usual.... the mushroom theory prevails. I have the U Joint for the Mott (right angle pulley #1) and hope to have the thing running soon for one last mow of the fort. The C-2 would not be as good for the redoubt because of the slopes and really not sure that is the only problem with it. But it is on the Lo Boy (needed to move it), so may try the suggestions before I move on... Looks like we may get the remnants of a hurricane anyway, so all bets are off.

Re: C-2 Mower Spindle Pulley Bushing Replacement
Larry, I've got a set of 1/2 drive metric sockets that might work out well for that job. Let me know the approx. diameter in inches or mm.

Good luck getting the bushing out.
This is probably too late, but it looks like the NDH1204T cross references to a SKF NU204...there seems to be a few of those around the web...

Re: C-2 Mower Spindle Pulley Bushing Replacement
Thanks Paul, the 'step' or stop is what is tripping me up at the moment... None of my sockets fit the 'narrow' width that you can see from the bottom end. It's sorta chipped up now.
Yep Ntrenn, that is what was recommendation of a bearing place suggested by another board member. So I ordered one, but the rollers are too big and it will not fit the shaft. Since the shaft is splined, not to mention hardened and ground, it is not going to work, no how, no way. But I appreciate the tip. Always something!

The book shows 20 id and 47 od....about 3/4 id - but the NDH bearings that IH tended to use had loose inner races - like on the countershaft.
It was worth a try....

Re: C-2 Mower Spindle Pulley Bushing Replacement
The answer was to search harder for a socket that fit..... that worked awesome! (Thanks Paul!)
Got the right angle gear box installed and went 'test' mowing.... I am happy!
The pulley is installed, but having a problem with the PTO shaft at the moment. I will get it. The lube hole did not line up, so I drilled it.
