So...while putting the '65 Loboy through its rehab paces, I patched up the overflow tube with a new one and all of a sudden, I now have overflow out the tube.
What level can I expect the radiator to get down to cold before it quits pushing water out the overflow? Halfway down the top tank?
I just fill the tractors and let them burp out the excess, but this one seems to have an excessive case of the burps....
Thanks

Can't go wrong or waste coolant by doing that. Once the excess is purged and you have no leaks, you'll always find the coolant well below the neck, usually visible on either side.

Thanks guys...on both tractors, the level is below the pipe and I have to reach my finger around it to gage the level - so when the '65 stops burping, I'll see where it ends up compared to the '63. I'm actually thinking about putting an overflow reservoir on it...

The important thing is that when it stops "burping" does the coolant remain at the same level when you check it before use each time or does it continue to go down. I have a cheap 99 cent flashlight hanging near the cubs for the sole purpose of shining in the radiator to see the coolant level.

I made a simple overflow bottle hooked to the overflow tube. When I fill the radiator just to get fluid to the top of the neck, it bubbles out about 12oz under a normal workload, 18oz in really hot weather and a long work day. Once that is boiled out, it doesn't lose any more unless I refill it. Dale.

What's the purpose of the overflow bottle? It won't go back into the radiator. Why would you refill it? It has already reached it's proper level.

Denny, when I bought my cub the PO told me to always top it off before I used it. After a while I got tired of buying anti-freeze so I put on the overflow bottle, filtered the overflow and reused it. Why refill it? I'd just rather be safe than sorry. Dale.
