Question About 56 Cub And Fast Hitch

Postby pm_wells » Sun Oct 28, 2012 6:57 pm

A while back I posted pic's of a 56 cub I had just traded for. I have seen a few mid 50's cubs set up like mine with fast hitch and the depth lever on the right side. My question is, was this setup available only a few years? It seems it was limited to mid 50's models.

yes, the depth adjustment handles on the early FH attachments were configured like yours in the pictures, on later versions they went to a rotating crank handle.

I have one on my '73 but I'm sure the hitch must be a transplant off an earlier model. I thought about changing it but It doesn't really get in the way, Kind of use to it.

The crank type and lever type depth controls are NOT easily interchangeable. It would take some fabrication on the fast hitch bail to adapt one to the other.

Just off the top of my head, I would guess that the change from lever to crank occurred either in 1957 or 1959.

From anything I have found, it appears that the change to crank happened late '56 for the '57 season, essentially (maybe exactly) when they went to the white grille.

So some 54 models, and then all 55,and most 56 models with fast hitch came with the lever depth control. I thought the lever depth control must be limited to mid 50's models because I was not seeing them on earlier or later models. :? To be honest I didn't know that later fast hitch's had crank adjustment for depth control.

Keep in mind that the fast hitch could have been added on a Cub after it was purchased from the dealer---and also that a fast hitch could be added to a pre-1955 Cub at any point.

The depth and leveling adjustment handles on a loboy fasthitch are both crank style.

The depth handle on a cub fast hitch was either a lever or crank style (depending on year of unit production)

The leveling adjustment handle on a cub fast hitch is the elongated crank style as shown in your photos.

Just for reference, here is the crank style depth control.

There are two ways to get enough Cubs. One is to continue to accumulate more and more. The other is to desire less.

the crank style was used for mid 56 on.I figure it was to make adjustments more infinent. also probabley to be able to raise the drawbar bail higher to allow for under slung mowers and attachments.

That handle made a good way to pull yourself up on a cub.

195897 had one.
