Update on Mom - updated 11-8-12

Had meeting with Dr./psychiatrist this evening. He said that Mom is no longer competent to stay by herself. She has no depth perception, cannot tell how far away something is, and also has the mental functioning level of a 2 year old. He said she is just as apt to get up in the middle of the night and go outside with no coat, etc. Not good in the winter. Or go outside and get lost in the back yard. Figuring this would happen sooner or later, I got all the paperwork for admission done about 6 months ago when I first noticed Mom starting to have serious problems.done about 6 months ago.

There is a lady Mom has been friends with since they were children in one of the nursing homes. Rooms are large and nice, and staff are real friendly. My dropping in was with no notice at 10 Am, but the place was spotless. I have made arrangements there for Mom, just waiting for hospital to release her.

Picked up Mom at hospital this afternoon and took her to local nursing home. She did not really want to go, but understood she needed to. I had been preparing her by talking about a childhood friend being there, and when it finally soaked in that she would be seeing her, it got better.
