Cub Lo-Boy 154 Carb on an F-Cub?

Postby Rudi » Wed Nov 07, 2012 10:47 am

I know that there are jet differences between the Numbered Series IH 3/4" Updraft carb and the regular IH carbs. Are there any issues with say using a 154 carb on an early -- '47, '48 or '49 Cub?

Well I learned something today. I always thought they were the same basic carb. Eitherway, I would think a newer 154 carb would work on a older cub. The choke lever may need to be flipped to the other side.

The butterfly being larger if not positioned perfectly will hit the intake manifold lip. Double the gasket for clearence and you will be fine.

With the larger jet, it may run rich.

There are a bunch of different Zenith carbs. I have one that came on my Lo Boy and like it a lot. They do seem to be a little more finicky when the Cub is cold, but I still prefer it.

They were also standard on the long stripe Cubs, with a slightly different manifold (larger intake hole) and a choke cable vs a rod/lever.

Possibly looking at the parts manual will answer some questions??

I am looking for a carb for a friend up here whose carb somehow mysteriously disappeared during the rebuild process.

That won't be a big deal as I already have the parts. Unfortunately I didn't get an answer from Roscoe early enough so I missed a good one. Thankee - you know who.

I have a 154 Cub Low-boy with a Zenith carburetor. Pulled the 154 into the shop today to work on. Actually haven't done anything with or on the 154 since I purchased it this spring as a winter project.

Starts a bit hard but runs ok once warmed up. Needs a tune up.

Parts book, TC 131, shows a Zenith carburetor for the 184 and 185 Low-Boy tractors. Same parts book shows a 3/4" updraft IH carburetor for the 154 Lo-boy tractors.
I have an excuse. CRS.
