Postby wvcub » Wed Nov 07, 2012 9:22 am

I recently purchased a loBoy for my wife. I beleive it is a 1958. The wife saw the white 1950 demonstrators and now wants me to paint the 58 white. I no its not originial but what do you guys thinks. Would this look right? What would happen if we take it to some shows? :?:

G'day and congrats :applause: on your new acquisition. For the bride huh? hmmm very good idea  :D

Here is how I feel about paint. It is your/your wife's tractor - paint it the colour that she wants it to be. Is it correct ??? Not a chance of an icecube in the desert. However -- so what. The lo-boys were introduced 5 years after the mid century campaign so there never was a demo lo-boy. We have seen pics of Pink Cubs, Purple Cubs, Massey Ferguson red Cubs, JD Green Cubs, Blue Cubs etc., and one of my favourite are the twins that George Willer painted. One was Red with a White hood and the other was Yellow with a White hood. Neither were correct but sure looked good.

A 1958 Cub Lo-boy would have been Red unless it was purchased by say a State Highway dept or a County/Town/City Public Works dept and those were Federal Yellow. A buddy also has an Orange Cub Lo-Boy - it is a CN Cub.

When you take it to shows, it is going to attract some attention if you paint it white. Some will be positive and some will be negative. The Correct Police will probably be all over it pointing out what is wrong -- but so what. It isn't their tractor at all, it is yours. Others will probably think the paint job is pretty slick.

Like Rudi said, it's yours (or your wife's) so paint it however you want. One thing to keep in mind with the all-white, is you are DEFINITELY going to see oil or gas leaks, and it's a true PITA to keep clean. The other colors do not seem to be too bad with leaks, but the white paint typically browns or yellows after you've found the leak and cleaned it up. If it's going to be a working tractor, you might want to look at other colors. If it's for parades and shows, then the leaks and dirt won't be as much of an issue.

Welcome neighbor, how's things down along the river.
If my wife wanted a white tractor she'd have a white tractor. My wife has been on one of my cubs once in 5 years but still enjoys seeing her boys work on them.
Drop by Evans some time and I'll show you a couple painted Chevy Victory red and maybe one that's Ford red also. Pretty soon that one will get a coat of Chevy paint too. :{_}:

Personally, I enjoy seeing tractors with unique colors & combinations. Attending shows, you'll see a lot of tractors painted incorrect colors and I don't think the correct police even critique them much anymore. If they do, just tell them that, yes, I know it's not correct but it's the way I like it. The problems arise when an owner insist it's original when it's clearly not.
Also, welcome to the forum!

Welcome to the forum.

Since it is her tractor I would also paint it the color she wanted. It really does not matter as long as it makes you folks happy.

Those little tractors have a way of making one happy.

Remember, we like pictures! :D

I don't hear nearly as much from the correct police as I do from the people complaining about them. People tyring to pass something off as something it isn't are the worst problems.

There are two ways to get enough Cubs. One is to continue to accumulate more and more. The other is to desire less.
