The Wall

This was a little bigger project than i thought it was going to be when i started, but it seems that way everytime i start a new one anyways. I had this idea for a fue years and was coming up with a plan to tackel this wall. The biggest thing was how much did the 2x2x6 blocks weigh and how was i going to pick them up? So i went and bought one of the blocks and went to some scales to weigh the block and found out that it weighs a little over 3000 pounds ea. I then went by a friends place to see if his backhoe would pick it up, it did, so it was on from there. Me and and a good friend did most of the work along with the help of the ford backhoe and a bobcat.

That's a lot of work. Them blocks is heavy. Sure is a difference in before and after. Much more usable now and sure looks pretty

Looks great! What's one of those blocks cost? And for the caps also? I got a retaining wall I built out of railroad ties, roughly 130 of em, and I'm sure in a dozen years of so I'm going to need to go to something more permanent like this. Good job!

The blocks come in two sizes, they are made out of the extry concrete that the trucks bring back to the plant. The 2x2x6 are $25.00ea and the 2x2x3 and the caps are $30.00ea. I dont under stand why the smaller ones cost more but they do. I had to use a fue of the half blocks so it was not to bad.

Labor. The material is waste. Takes twice as much labor to get rid of the same amount of waste concrete.

but now i know you are not as cheap as I thought you were. Well, They "COST", what did YOU pay.

Wow, nice work Clint (and friend)! Great looking results. You get the idea of the 'mushroom theory', everything takes longer (and costs more) than whatever you thought it would.

Guess you have an appreciation of how much work went into building Ft Adams out of granite now. No old Ford backhoes in the 1840s. Dang walls are still straight as an arrow too.

Thanks Clint for the price info. It's actually a good deal for what they will do. I guess with as many as you brought in a big rig brought them in on a flat deck trailer. That's a lot of weight for sure.
