Ideas for new barn and property.

Got a project that you are working on that is not a tractor? Maybe a barn to hold your tractors or just fun stuff like woodworking, glass, tools, sheds, gardens, custom implements, etc., this is the place to talk about it.

Ideas for new barn and property.

Postby Thackery » Sun Nov 18, 2012 4:22 pm

My wife and I have been fortunate enough to be able to buy the property adjacent to ours. There is a little over 6 acres and an older pole barn. The barn was set up for horses with 7 box stalls, wash room, tack room, and riding arena.
I'm looking for suggestions for uses of the barn and land.
We have several ideas but I would like to hear what others think. I know there are a lot of experienced people out there that can contibute. All ideas or thoughts are appreciated, serious, for laughs, pratical, etc. Bring it on, ask questions etc. Looking forward to what everyone has to say.

Doug, buy seven horses!
I don't believe in taking the bull by the horns. I took a goat by the horns once and that was enough excitement for me.

To maintain the property, you're going to need more Cubs.

Good point! Forget the horses and buy seven Cubs, one for each horse stall.

Doug,

Are there any existing farming operations nearby? Most active farmers are always looking for land and buildings to lease.

One box stall for plows, one for cultivators, 2 for mowers etc. Tack room becomes the tool room. Wash room remains a wash room. Arena for parking Cubs and larger implements. Add a hard floor to at least part of the arena for repair work.

I figured someone would say "Buy more Cubs". Actually I have 3 now and that should take care of most of the property work along with a zero turn mower. Yes, one stall is already being converted into a Cub stall., and there may be a 2nd stall for the same. I have had a 57 Lo-Boy on the back burner for a while and it will become the main Cub for the new place.
Barnyard, how many Cubs will fit in 110' x 90'. You should qualify for pretty good guess.
Even though we (mostly Candace) ride horses, we are not real interested in owning our own. Care costs are up due to hay prices etc. and well, we just aren't ready for that.
Don, renting the land and/or building is something we have considered. We rent some land out now and that has its merits.
Keep the suggestions coming,
Thanks

It depends on your tire width, but 297 will fit in what you have with very little room to get around. More if you dismantle them and throw them in a pile.

I need to stop by and see this barn sometime.

If you have a few acres, make a hay field, cut it and sell it. Or let someone else do it. I would hold onto the building though, you would be supprised all you could do with it. I would love to have something like that for all my stuff.

Convert the stalls and part of the barn into self storage units.
I have an excuse. CRS.
