As said, grounds are key. Some of us disassemble stuff to clean and paint, things like the VR bracket and even the generator MUST be grounded and it's done through the fasteners and the 'frame' of the part. The VR has a small braided wire that runs to one 'leg' and must be grounded. You can also use dielectric grease after assembly to keep the rust at bay.

For the battery box, I have been using 'rubberized' paint and a long (15"??) braided ground to the base (and axle tube). Not the best pictures, but you should get the idea.

Hey hey when I saw that picture, I had to laugh... that area's all different now, and that ugly black box is in the pile of steel for potential future projects.

That was the ONLY useful toolbox I have ever seen on a Cub.... you could pack a lunch in that thing and still have room for tools

Not to worry Bob, you can keep it. Down here in the big city, a trip with the Cub usually has a catered clam bake for lunch. I only have to pack a lunch when I leave the island.... Can't do that with a Cub. (or wouldn't do that). Also, won't work with a deluxe seat
