Any easy suggestion with instant results is searching the archives of this forum for J-4 points, condenser, service. Many tips and how to's previously posted over time will result, read them all then procede forward.

1. Turn engine to top dead center on #1 cylinder before removing mag.
2. Remove cap and verify rotor is pointing to #1 tower on cap.
3. Verify sparkplug wire goes from #1 tower on cap to #1 plug.
If 2 and 3 are true, remove mag and replace points. (set at .013")

If 2 and 3 are not true, it means a previous owner has done some creative juggling.
If you remove the rotor, remember it must be timed to the mag when you reinstall it.

4. Go to How To Forum and read the How to time a mag sections.
Hope this gets you started.
Have a good day, Art Image

Don't forget to put a dab of grease on the rubbing block on the points.
