trying to determine year of a 140 I looked at todaywent to get a blade for my 140 today and dealer had a late model 140 there today serial tag missing has spin on filter , 2 rear light brackets and a factory alternator. do the 140 s have casting date codes like the cubs if so do the letters match the year of the cub date code list. tractor has fasthitch and cultivators

This is a description of the “Letters” following the serial #’s. J – Rockford Clutch JKK – Optional 4th Gear Ratio: Tractor ran almost twice as fast in 4th gear than a standard 140. Serial tag is located on the left side of the bell housing.

You jogged my memory. I had a chance to meet a man that worked in the Louisville foundry up until the plant closed. He remembered new 140's setting around almost up until the plant shut down. I don't know if his memory was 100% accurate but that's what he said... Of course, there's at least still one new 140 still in the world.... Al "12 volt conversions are for quitters"
