Before I attempt to remove this, and possibly mangle it, anyone know if it has a specific purpose? I need to remove it so I can install the substitute drawbar.
Thanks.

Re: Funky final screw/bolt to identifyHi Dale,Its not a factory bolt, I have seen a couple of final drives with the bottom of the casting punched out and will leak oil so some one will put a bolt back in the hole to keep it from leaking

Re: Funky final screw/bolt to identifySounds like a distinct possibility. Guess once I get it out, I could confirm that. If that is the case, as long as I put a bolt back in and use a sealant (Permatex?) I would think it wouldn't leak since the actual fluid level is lower than this bolt and it only gets slung oil, right?

Re: Funky final screw/bolt to identifyMaybe somebody wanted something a little more robust than a cork to keep the dirt out?
Re: Funky final screw/bolt to identifyIt may have broken off and the previous owner hack sawed a slot to use a screwdriver to get it out.
Re: Funky final screw/bolt to identify
Since he hasn't even attempted to remove it yet I think there are a few easier ways to try before getting the welder and torches out. First would be a big screwdriver. Second would be a drag link socket used on the tie rods.
Re: Funky final screw/bolt to identify
Can you explain this a bit better...what is a drag link socket, and what tie rods? Thanks Dale Finch

Having worked in a brake/front-end shop when I was younger....I can honestly say I'm familiar with them. Picture courtesy of NAPA Auto Parts.
Re: Funky final screw/bolt to identifyDrag link socket already explained.
The big screw on the outboard ends of the cub tie rods was the tie rods I was revering to. Another option I have used (on the tie rod ends) is an appropriately sized chisel with a hex shaft in a box end wrench if it's not to tight. I guess a socket and ratchet wrench would work as well, you could give it a little more push to stay in the slot.

Re: Funky final screw/bolt to identify
Actually you can buy bolts to place in the finals and main T tube at TSC cheeper than you can buy cork. At least that's what I've found out in my area. ![]() Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for lunch. Liberty is a well-armed lamb contesting the vote. Ben Franklin
Re: Funky final screw/bolt to identifyHmmm...I already have a chisel I use for those tie rods, so I will try it tomorrow if I get a chance.
And you are right, Yogie, those corks can be a tad pricey, so when a hardware store was going out of business, I bought a large assortment and have about filled all those holes in my three tractors. Every time I think I have found them all, I see another mud dauber heading for a new spot!!! Dale Finch
