My new Cub
In looking through the new issue of our farm magazine (The Fence Post), I spotted the first ad I've seen this year for a Cub. It said it came with a fast hitch, 54A blade, fast hitch plow, and disc for $1250. Now I know that a lot of you guys would keep on reading at that point, but I decided to give him a call. He bought the Cub from neighbor who drove it to his barn and parked it about 10-15 years ago. It hadn't been started since then. He said the tires were fair and he didn't know much else about it as he mostly has larger Farmalls and JD's. He thought it was a 1948. As someone was going to look at it in the afternoon, I opted for a morning visit. When I got there it turned out to be a 1966 International. It will be my first yellow and white Cub. What he was calling a disc was the plow coulter. It has a tach on it and was in real good shape except for the front axle. The neighbor had welded an extension off each side of the front axle to which he mounted a front boom pole. He had added a shelf under the Cub platform which has a 12 V winch on it. I may leave it alone and at some point remake the boom pole. Tires are about 80-90% and although low, were not flat. Battery box lid and front plate are there. The engine is free, unfortunately there is still about an inch of old gas in the tank which was otherwise clean of rust. Just as I was giving him a down payment, the next guy called to see if it was still available. I probably won't pick it until Jan, and don't have any pictures. I'm hoping that this will be one of those that only needs fresh gas, a new battery, and a clean carb to start up. I guess it was an early Christmas present to myself. Now I just need to find something else for my wife.

Re: My new Cub
Sounds like you found a nice one for a right good price. I'm sure you will find Sue a suitable gift.
There are two ways to get enough Cubs. One is to continue to accumulate more and more. The other is to desire less.

Re: My new Cub
Couldn't think of anything wife wanted or needed. Was thinking I could wrap up the new clutch brake buttons for the 154 Cub Low-boy and put her name on the package. Second thought, idea not so good. Purchased 1 dozen yellow roses, to be delivered Christmas eve.Bob McCarty wrote:Now I just need to find something else for my wife. Bob
Should have wrapped up the clutch brake buttons. Better value, 1/3 the cost of the yellow roses, tax, vase, and delivery charge. Roses will be around for a week. Clutch brake buttons - 20 years.
I have an excuse. CRS.

Not to be a downer, but man, I'd go get that thing tomorrow and get it in your barn ASAP!!!
I've seen lots of deals go bad after someone else came in and offered more money. It happened to me on a lo-boy, actually paid for it but could not get it loaded by myself during my lunch break. When I came back after work the person gave me my money back and said they had to have double what I had given them. I insisted that what I gave was fair for a tractor with 4 flat tires and had not run in 20 years, and what they were now asking was more in line for the cost of a fully refurbished tractor. They wouldn't budge, and I lost out on it. Trust me. It will NEVER happen again to me. It will be on my trailer and gone, even if I have to take the rest of the day off work.

Re: My new Cub
Bob, Congrats on the new to you Cub. Sounds like a good deal. Hope it doesn't take too much to get it going. I'm thinking if you invite Raymond up for lunch it'll be running by afternoon siesta time. He is Quick!! Have lots of fun with your new project. Hope you all are doing well. ...Frank P.S. I'm sure Sue will love the yellow roses much better than the brake buttons.

I agree, just to many things that can go south on a deal like this. The longer you wait the more chances there are.
