Wow, a 5 year old thread brought back to the top.

You didn't make a mistake, you created a learning experience for others. On a more serious note, with the snow season upon us a lot of new members may be plowing for the first time. This will serve as a good reminder of things to watch for.

That break can be welded and reinforced much better than new.
