Deluxe seat / bent shifter ideas ?

Postby Winfield Dave » Sun Jun 26, 2011 8:09 am

Got my first Cub with the deluxe seat and bent shifter.
Find it uncomfortable always bending down to reach the shifter.

:?: Has anyone made an extension ?...would be interested in hearing ideas / seeing pics.

I remember a George Willer post where he said he liked to extend the standard shifter by a few inches.
Didn't know if something was possible with the bent one.

I don't see any reason why it can't be done, oxy/acetylene and a welder and some round bar. You have to figure out which way you want to bend it.

There are some crazy shifters in muscle cars to get around those bench seats. I would like to see what you come up with.

Dave - there is no reason you can't add an upturn to the shift lever to make it easier to reach. You will just have to experiment a bit with shift lever positions in all 4 gears to make sure the shift lever will clear the seat and your legs. I think a slightly less than 90 degree upturn and slight extension would clear the seat and you might want to turn is slightly to the left to assure it would not take up leg room.

Dave my father use to put a screw coupling on the existing shifter and bend a length of straight bar stock to what ever shape he wanted ,thread both ends for nob and couple. I still have one around here. It doesn't mess with the original engineering.

Something I threw together yesterday with what I had.
It is real convenient when operating the loader.
Will paint it and maybe cut it shorter after I try it out for awhile.
Not real happy with the bend...next one will be better.

Dave,

I have the one that Mike Mueller (a forum member) makes. They are a great addition to any deluxe seat or Lo Boy pan style seat Cub. He is a perfectionist and does an excellent job at making them. I now have 3! Hope this helps.

I also have a shifter extension from Mike Mueller. Received it last week. Have not painted it
or installed . It is a nice addition to a shifter with a duluxe seat.

I like Mike's extension, but I don't have the machinery to make one,
and am too frugal to buy one.

Here's my 2.0 version.

For $20.00 it would be hard to make one. I couldn't pass it up.
