What are the differences between a '52 and a '47?
Quick story, I bought what I was told is a '52, but the serial number is 6400 which makes it a '47 and that's fine. The serial number plate looks original and the really interesting thing is the engine serial number is the same shown hand written in the copy of the '47 manual in the "Manuals" section on this webpage. I know the engine likely came from a different Cub,(probably the one noted in the manual). Assuming the serial number plate is original, is it likely that the front section came from a different tractor? Just curious.
Thanks

What is the engine serial Number? It is very possible the front had been swapped out at one time.

251341 R1 Strangely enough, it's the same number hand written in the copy of the '47 manual in the "Manuals" section. That is quite a coincidence?!

That is the part number for the block. Most all of them have that number on them. Do you have any cast codes? That will help a lot.

Check the casting dates on the different parts of your tractor. It will have two numbers seperated by dots and end with a letter. as the years whent on they repeated the leters but with your information you already know you can get close to the date yours is. this list was posted on TM' s web site.
Year Code 1947 Q 1948 R 1949 S 1950 T 1951* U 1951* V 1951* W 1952 X 1953 Y 1954 Z 1955** A 1956 B 1957 C 1958 D 1959 E 1960 F 1961 G 1962 H 1963 J 1964 K 1965 L 1966 M 1967 N 1968 O 1969 P 1970 R 1971 S 1972 T 1973 W 1974 X 1975 Y 1976 Z 1977** A 1978 B 1979 C

Does that help the ID any?

Another part number. The "L" at the end is probably a 1. The engine serial number indicates it is from a 1947 so I would say your Cub is a 1947. Here is a link to TM's website showing where to look for cast dates. http://www.tmtractor.com/id/castdate_loc.htm

VW, Check out your casting codes here http://www.tmtractor.com/id/castdate_loc.htm. TM Tractor Parts has very good pics of the casting date location on major parts of the Cub.
