carb kit for my Super A-1

Postby Joel » Mon Jan 07, 2013 8:08 pm

I called the local IH dealer and asked what carb kit I'd need for my Carter carburetor and the guy in the parts section said there were two and I'd had to bring in the carburetor to find the match. I'm assuming I can find this online and for a better price. Any ideas? The writing is worn. I think it says Carter Ut or U-. The number under it is rubbed off. There is a number on the manifold facing piece. It is 0-1396.

Thanks!
Joel

I&T manual: Super A and AV gas = UT733S or SA

Super A and AV Ker. or Dist. (early) UT734S

Edit: Providing the carburetor has not been change.
I have an excuse. CRS.

It was originally a dist. or Ker. tractor. In fact, the manifold still is. Is the model number printed anywhere else but on the front? I can't find a picture online for these two. I had seen a kit here: http://www.steinertractor.com/ABC231-basic-carburetor-repair-kit-carter but it says it is for the version with the cast iron top body. I'm not sure, but mine looks aluminum.

You will probably be better off with a kit from the dealer if they can get one. Far superior to most aftermarket kits and more complete. Make sure you mention distillate/kerosene to the dealer.

I agree with Daniel! ---deal with the dealer--even if it costs more,---save grief later down the road!---I have best luck by taking old/worn/broken parts in hand and slap them on the nice clean parts counter!! LOL! usually gets the right parts every time!---cant do that on the internet! thanks; sonny

Thanks Eugene, Daniel and Sonny! I just read my previous comment and noticed I was too distracted by my problem to be grateful. I really appreciate of your help. All y'all tips are great. I'll drop in on the dealer and make sure I make note of the part number for next time.

Thanks.
Joel
