I am replacing the voltage regulator on my Cub. I bought a VR851 from the local NAPA store. It came with an external resistor kit. My old regulator did not have this.
Do I need to install this resistor? It is a beautiful sunny day here in Eastern Washington. I want to get the Cub running so I can play around with the grader blade that I just bought.

Snow/blizzerd and cold here. If your cub has a high low charge on your light switch then you will need the resistor. Usually cubs for 47 to late 49 had a cut out not a regulator.LHDB in light switch. if you cub doesnt have the LHDB on the light switch then you wont need the resistor.

Re: Voltage Regulator Help
this may be a stupid question, but is it a resistor, or a capacitor?
If you are not part of the solution,

Re: Voltage Regulator Help
its prob a resistor to cut back the load terminal on the regulator so it doesnt charge full bore all the time. Capacitor stores energy doesnt it?

Re: Voltage Regulator Help
How much did it cost?? Might have been cheaper to convert to an alternator. I have a poster from the correct police but a 1 wire alternator is generally cheaper over the long run. Why do you think new cars and trucks as well as tractors come with them???????????????????????????????????????/
