Water In Gas Tank?

Postby thiggy » Wed Feb 13, 2013 5:23 pm

As I travel to the DSCF, my Cub will be exposed to the elements. (She hasn't spent the night without a roof over her head for over 30 years.) Is there any concern about moisture getting in the gas tank if I were to encounter rain? I am using the new style fuel cap. Thanks, Stanley :?:

You will be fine as long as your gas cap is in place. :D

With Cub tractors that I store for long periods of time, I try to keep the gas tanks filled with fresh fuel, this keeps moisture and rust from building up inside the tank.

Remove the seat cushion so you don't lose that and the oil bath/breather cap so you don't lose that when towing then tape a bag over the air breather tube. Have fun! We got more snow last night...wish I was going.

Mine stays outside and I have had no issues with water in the gas tank......i have a flapper on the exhaust though......but if I am not mistaken there is a drain hole in the exhaust manifold that drains out any water that make it down the exhaust pipe.......that is if it isn't plugged with gunk.....Mine was. I remember how I found it.....i had just squirted a bunch of Seafoam in the carb and after a while the whole left side of the valve cover turned black....I thought I had a crack in the exhaust manifold.....but no...the Seafoam had no only cleaned the gunk off of the cylinders and rings but it had also cleared the drain hole.

You will get more water by condensation than rain with the cap on. Condensation can even can get there in the barn.
