Dumb & Dumber!

Postby Dusty B » Mon Feb 18, 2013 6:04 pm

Kept getting backfire on Katrina (ran fine last spring!). Posted for help on the forum, checked & cleaned points, checked timing w/# 1 plug on compression -same results !! Went back to basics - start w/wiring from distributor cap! DUH! Wires were one hole OFF!! Do NOT remember having distributor cap off or having wires out since it ran last???? Changed wires - 2 cranks and Vroooommm! Thanks guys for all the suggestions - I now know what the inside of my Mag looks like! Ready to hang everything back together and get ready for CUB TUG!! Obviously you better check twice if I offer any solutions to problems ! LOL !! Dusty B

Dusty, I know where you are coming from. If you recall, just a short time ago I went through the same thing only to find out I was out of gas. :big shy:

Dusty - get Katrina in good shape! It's gonna be a great year for the tug!
And amen on the wiring issue. It's easier to do than you think.

If you can't fix it with a hammer, you've got an electrical problem.

I've done dumber things than that. One of my favorite tricks when I was just starting to wrench on my vehicles wast to forget to replace the drain plug before adding the new oil.

I do not think (not sure) I have done that, but I have poured coolant in radiator without drain plug, oil in engine with no drain plug, tried to split without removing flywheel inspection cover, started one without oil in touch control, and also without the pin in governor to throttle linkage. Had to rebuild TC pump after that one. There are probably more I have done, but my memory is bad. Also, my memory is bad.
If you are not part of the solution,
you are part of the problem!!!
