When in '63 was the Farmall 140 Restyled

Postby AL Farmall Boy » Tue Feb 26, 2013 10:26 am

Intresting thought I had this morning.......in 1963 the Farmall 140 went from the horizontal bar grille to the vertical bar grille (and other sheetmetal changes). But when in 1963 did this occur? I have done a little research on the internet, but only found sources claiming it was just restyled and no more info than that. Maybe some of you guys have 140's or have had done this research before. If so....post what you've found or the pictures and serial numbers of your tractors and we'll see what we can come up with. Kinda like the "cut fender" and the "red/white" Cubs that Boss is researching. Well 140s are my favorite (besides longstripe Cubs), and I'd like to see what we can come up with on this. Granted this site is mostly Cub stuff.....I still think we can still do it.

FYI, here are the pictures of the 1958- mid 1963 McCormick Farmall 140 then the mid 1963-1979 Farmall 140 (later in 1968 called the International Farmall 140, and in mid 1975 called the International 140)

You should be able to find that in your parts catalog.

ok Jim, I'll give it a look and see what it says for the sheetmetal parts? Maybe it'll give a serial number change. I guess with all of these other "differences" we've been researching, I didn't think that the change in design would have been listed with a serial number. I'll take a look now. Thank you.

In case anyone else would like to know.......According to the parts manual online. The early style was from serial 501 - 23300 and the later style was from 23301 - end in 1979.

That surprises me that there were so many "560 style" 140's made. It seems all I ever see are the later versions.

Here's something else: there were 4-5 changes in the emblems/decals on the hood. There was an article several years ago in Red Power about the changes. The gist was there were several years that the 560 style oval emblems were used on the 706-style hoods.

I have never thrown an issue away since January '93, but at the moment I don't know where they all are.... :( The article's author is the president of our IH Collectors Chapter, if I can't find it I will ask him.

Jim is correct on the Jan-Feb 2001 issue. The article was titled "The 4 Faces of the 140". You can order back issues from Red Power Magazine.

I knew this was an old thread, but the post just above me is from a fairly new member and posted just yesterday, so I thought I would help him out.
