Square head rim bolts

Postby bzsz1942 » Wed Feb 27, 2013 6:28 pm

On my 52 cub that I am redoing, I have removed the rims from the centers for cleaning/repainting. Some of the 8 square headed 1/2", fine machine thread bolts that fasten the rims to the centers are rusted to the point that the diameter of the bolt is significantly reduced. Where can I get new, replacements?

If you have a JD dealer close they can get them for a lot less. I can't remember the part number and I'm not home to check it. Somewhere in here is another thread on square head bolts and I listed the part number in it.

John Deere part number is 08h4465. They should be just under $2.00.
There are two ways to get enough Cubs. One is to continue to accumulate more and more. The other is to desire less.

Yeah, I hate to say it.

At least they don't come painted green.

Are the ones from JD a fine or coarse thread?

As I recall, Clint, they are fine thread. If that is wrong, others will be along soon to correct the error.

We have a local JD dealer here in town. Will check and order/buy, assuming they are the fine thread.

I bought a set from Mcmaster Carr online. Coarse thread though.

If you use John Deere bolts, reckon the wheels will fall off? :)

On my way home today, I stopped at our local John Deere dealer and ordered the square head bolts for my cub. They are fine thread, proper size(1/2" x 2") and best of all, $1.50 each in packs of 5. I ordered 2 packs (I have 4 cubs) and like to have spare parts. Thanks for the good information.
