Early Cub

Postby Joe Malinowski » Sat Mar 02, 2013 3:16 pm

I sold a 1953 cub to a guy in the other part of the state this week and ended up delivering it. He had told me he bought a cub about a year ago and it had been all redone when he got it. I looked it over and asked if he knew what year it was and he had no clue. I was pretty surprised to look at the serial number and see 1975 on the plate. Pretty sure he will be on the forum at some point.

The first cub I looked at years ago to buy had a number real close to that one Joe.
I never even heard of a circle cub back in those days..

Yeah Yogie this guy has no clue about it either other than it is very shiny and bright. It also starts very poorly, the paint job is nice but some stuff that shouldn't be red is. I would have hoped a restoration project would have started easily, I really didn't have time to play around with it and he had it buried in the back of the shed it is in. He was very impressed with how well the 53 started. This guy bought it sight unseen when he met me and saw the tractor first thing he did was touch the engine and then the manifold to see if I had warmed it up before we met so it looked like it started easily. I let him know it had been outside loaded on the trailer in 20 degree weather for 24 hours. I'll miss that cub.

He got a deal! That was a nice Cub!

If they are tuned (and good grounds etc) they should start on the first try, but for 20F I would give two tries for a 6v Cub. I started Rufus for someone when it was near zero once, after it had been sitting 3 months..... first try! I wasn't surprised, just pleased.
