new owner of my first international cub tractor

Postby 66internationalcub » Thu Mar 14, 2013 12:11 am

3-8-13 purchsed a 1966 international cub. Not running, battery box rusted into, finnaly got spark to plugs. then realized I had no oil pressure. At this point I 'm not sure how the oil pumps works or where it is located?? Pulled the top of the oil filter, removed a filter I am sure it is not for this engine. at this point rolled engine over a few times and no oil came into the filter housing. While turning engine over the hydraulics move. Pulled pan, bottom of engine looks good and
clean. Does the hydraulic pump also deliver oil to the crank shaft and bearings??

Yes. With the oil filter top off, you will see a small hole at 1 o'clock and 1" down from the top.

To prime the pump, squirt some oil into that hole. Turn the motor over a few revolutions. Continue doing this till oil squirts back out the hole, and you will be set.

You can use the starter or a hand crank. It will take a little oil to fill the gallies, the pump before it starts to pump.

Look above in the header for (new) manuals and then for Cub Owners Manuals. The 1967 version is a relatively new scan so the file size is not too large and it is plenty close enough for your tractor. I suggest you read it from cover to cover and go through ALL of the lubrication tasks before operating the tractor. There are some, like the fan hub, that people don't even discover until it is too late. Welcome to the forum and enjoy your Cub!

To clarify, the OIL pump is located on the back of the engine, driven by the camshaft. The HYDRAULIC pump is located on the front of the engine. The two are separate, the Hydaulic pump was an option, and only runs the touch control hydraulic unit. The oil pump was NOT an option. :)
