Wireing harness

Postby torchred89 » Wed Mar 27, 2013 6:26 pm

The two wires that go to the Amp guage. The Amp guage has + & - Which on goes where. Ammeter to starter is that + or minus. and the ammeter to Regulator.

Thanks
This is my new hobby!

Are you sure its an ammeter? It should not be polarity specific...

ampmeters are marked, you have a 50/50 chance, when the wires are hooked with a draw on the system it should show on the discharge side, if it shows on the positive side its hooked up backwards, it won't hurt anything if its hooked backwards

The wiring diagram shows the BAT on voltage regulator to POS on amp meter, and NEG on amp meter to ign switch. I never paid any attention as to how mine is hooked up, but on mine, Bat on VR is hooked to the terminal on the outboard side of guage.

I assume you intended to say "starter switch". If the ignition switch is fed directly from an ammeter lug, it should be connected to the same side as the lead from the VR. I'm pretty sure they would go on the (+) lug of the ammeter.

When I reassemble the wiring, I put wires on the ammeter based on which way the wires seem to be bent. Then I turn something on to see which way the needle goes. That method doesn't work with a new wiring harness.

Good catch Jim. I was going by the diagram on Rudi's Blue Ribbon manual.

A bit tough to read, but the operator's manual has wiring diagrams.

Yep! 50/50 chance. I hope I can get in there to change. Without taking hood off. I got the new wireing harness on and put the hood back on. Hooked up the battery and pulled the swich with the lights on and the guage went to the + Just my luck

Oh yeah, I should have mentioned hook up the battery and turn the light switch before putting the hood back on.

Ahoy RUDI..... I just found your post re: ELECTRIC SCHEMATIC which reflected a cutout relay vice a regulator..... now I can relate to this. My 1949 61617 cub has what appears to be a CUTOUT RELAY which I see from the schematic is hooked up different than a VR. I have not been able to get my generator to GEN. Perhaps this is why? I do have the L-H-D-B switch.
Thanks much, very much. The schematic is listed for FARMALL H/M. Does that matter? Chet sends
