Amp-meter - Insulator

In my quest to redo every inch of this Cub, I carefully removed the amp-meter from the dash. When I removed it from the bracket, the insulator from around the terminals just disintegrated.

Do I replace the gauge or are those small insulators available? Our gauge is a little rusty inside but was working before I disassembled it.

If I decide to replace are the ones available today any good?

TM Tractor used to stock them, not sure where they went. has em as well - these are mostly reproductions - the new ones that is - Farmall Ammeters. If you search , you can probably find originals in good shape that might be in better shape than the one you have. Where to get the insulators? Electrical supply house/electrical section of a good old fashioned hardware store?

I remember scrounging for a couple of those insulators at a Cubfest, a while back. If I'd been at home, I would have whipped some out on the lathe. Should be a pretty easy item to make, if you can't easily find them.

Hardware store should have a selection of non conductive washers; plastic, fiber, etc.. Heat shrink or plastic tubing on the gauge terminal threads.

Small engine shop with junk lawn mowers behind the building. On the other hand, parts would be quite inexpensive, travel expense would cost more than the parts. Just purchase another amp gauge.

check your local NAPA or Carquest, they may have them.

A plastic or fiber washer and a piece of insulation stripped from a 10 or 12 gauge wire should do the trick. There are a lot of things that will work that a person has laying around.
