Another newbie needing help please

Postby Slickwilly1976 » Sat May 18, 2013 8:02 pm

This may have been posted some where but I couldn't find it. I'm new to the cub 185 and when I let my lever down my deck goes down but not my three point. I can help it down and when I raise the lever up the deck and the lift comes up fine. Am I doing it right? Does it supposed to go down when the deck does? :?:

I'm not familiar with the 185 but manuals are posted at the top of this page. Others will be along soon with more help.

Welcome to the Forum!!

The Hyd's on the numbered series (154, 185, 184) are one way, meaning pressure up, but they require gravity to pull the implement down. If you have nothing connected, you'll have to help the cylinder down.

There should also be a valve on the tunnel that operates one cylinder at a time, either the belly lift or the rear lift.

You need to read the operators manual for your tractor. You can lock out either the mower deck or the 3 point hitch. Locking out the mower deck and unlocking out the 3 point and the 3 point operates. And viceversa. Most of the time the lock outs are manually controlled, remove lock out bar on 3-point and adjusting stop screws on mower deck lift apparatus.

On my 154 there are two hydraulic control valves on the tunnel cover. Lift one valve and the mower deck operates and 3-point locked out. Lift 2nd valve and the 3-point operates and the mower deck is lock out.

Mine doesn't have a selector switch on the tunnel.
Can you do it manually ? Thanks for the info on the gravity part. I was worried

If you post a few pics of your tractor I am sure you could get an answer.

Pulling up on a knob in the middle of the tunnel is manually operating :D

No. Reason we can't specifically answer the question is that we do not know how your Low-boy is set up.

Generally the tractors are set up to operate only the mower deck or the 3 point, but not both at the same time. Operating both systems at the same time, slows, really slows down, the action time of both systems.

Since you have no control valve on the tunnel, to operate the 3-point you will need to lock the deck into the elevated position and then remove the 3-point locking bar. Your operators manual will have photos and a description on how to perform each action.

I need to get a operators manual. I just got this tractor Friday. I've looked and I don't think it has a locking bar on the three point. I need to find a few more things for the three point. I have the cylinder and the rock shaft. I also have the bottom link plate and the plate the upper link fastens to. I need to find a manual so I can see how to lock the deck. Can a control valve be added?

You should be able to install a diverter valve so you can control them separately. I purchased a three point hitch for mine and had the shop that installed the hitch put a diverter valve in while they were doing the work. Lots of good help here on this site.

Above, link to operator's manual for the 185. You can down load the manual, print out and save on computer.

Instructions on the mid lift and 3 point are included.

When the 3-point arms are added, the weight of the arms should be enough to cycle the cylinder down.
Your tunnel is plumbed like my 184. Both cylinders are pressurized when actuating the hydraulics. The lowest weight implement lifts first (mower deck or 3-point).

The Tee shown in the tunnel picture is where a diverter valve is added. This is an expensive option for the tractor.
