Hood Support Bracket Material for Round Hood Cub

Postby DieselDennis » Wed Jul 03, 2013 5:14 pm

The hood on my '48 is missing the supports. Big surprise I know. I had been wondering what went in those holes in the top of the radiator supports.

I plan on making a couple. Can anyone tell me what material they're made from? I'm guessing from the pictures it's a 1/8 x 1 flat bar? But maybe it's 1 1/4 or even 1 1/2 wide flat bar? I've got access to an ironworker and a slot punch, so I'd rather make them than buy them (and pay shipping).

I've used 1/8x1 inch stock. That's the stock they are made of. Ed

I have replaced them on 2 of my cubs with parts from TM Tractors, and just wanted to point out what is probably obvious to you...be sure you weld them on in the correct spot or the grill and dog legs won't fit right. One of mine is about a half millimeter off which makes it a tad pesky to get back together!

I envy your access to the equipment!! Have fun!!

Bolt them to the radiator support first, then tack weld, through the holes in the hood. Gets perfect alignment. then, take it off and finish welding. Ed
