Welcome to the board!
What kind of seat do you have? Pan, deluxe or aftermarket?

If you have the original seat setup, there was no up or down adjustment, and the only way to move it front to back was to unbolt it and move it. I have one that was welded in place at one time, though I have replaced it since. The spring should allow the seat to move up and down , but it is not unusual to fins one stuck.
If you are not part of the solution,
you are part of the problem!!!
