Poor little "Bait" is going to need a lot of therapy after this is over.

Well set the trap again last night....not sure what I am doing wrong...changed the camouflage on the trap and made sure to spray scent kill on everything.

I got my chicken door working ....using parts I collected over the years....a unidirectional valve actuator and a Moeller easy relay to control it based on time of day.

I like how that door works.. pretty slick
You gotta remember though that the old saying swift like a Fox doesn't just relate to speed. Them critters ain't too stoopid either. Catching one is going to be an Elmer Fudd - Bugs Bunny affair methinks

Re: Back Yard Chicken\Duck Coop - Turned Fox Hunt!
I have the perfect solution for you!
I know this fox who hires out as a "hit fox". He will come to your coop and wait......and wait.......
All he asks is that you let him bag a few bunnies for dinner. He is very effective!
HOWEVER, there is one problem with him....he is sweet on chickens. I mean, he is REALLY sweet on them. Don't let any eggs hatch while he is around!!

That is hilarious.....Thanks for the reply! Well this weekend I am going to add a call to see if I can lure him in....I was messing around with several different calls......I got to the hurt pup call and my dog about knocked me over trying to get to it. So things look promising. Will update you guys next Monday or so...

Re: Back Yard Chicken\Duck Coop - Turned Fox Hunt!
Well the hunt has cooled off a bit..time to re-group. I think the fox has a taste for ducks and doesn't seem to like chicken. So next plan is to get more ducks and use them as bait when they get a bit older.
I never thought it would be easy.......so on we go.

Re: Back Yard Chicken\Duck Coop - Turned Fox Hunt!
Well yesterday was the first clean out day. So I was hoping that my rear door idea would work out....and it worked just as designed....took me about 10 minutes to clean it out and another 10 to get the new wood shavings in...
I built the back panel with 4 latches so that I can remove the whole back panel and scrape out the old wood shavings.

Re: Back Yard Chicken\Duck Coop - Turned Fox Hunt!
Haven't had any issues with the fox ....so guess I will leave him alone if he leaves my chickens alone. I thought I would post a picture of our first egg that we picked last Friday.
Hopefully we get many more and the fox leaves us alone.

Congrats! As you already know, they're worth the wait.
Now, just be on guard for the occasional black snake and you'll be alright.

As you get used to those fresh eggs you will never be able to go back to store bought eggs and enjoy breakfast again We had our chickens for 4 or 5 years until I got too ill to clean the coop anymore. I haven't really enjoyed eggs since. Fresh is best and the freshest are the ones you collect before breakfast

Stanton,
Hopefully I don't have to worry about snakes ....but I always keep an eye out for them!
Rudi,
It has been a long time since I had fresh eggs. When I lived at home is was one of my chores before going to school every morning along with milking the cow. It seemed like work back then but I really miss it now.
I wanted to share a video my wife posted of our rooster. He has definitely found his voice over the last couple of weeks. He shows off ALL DAY LONG!
