auction today

Postby midmo » Sat Jul 13, 2013 4:52 pm

I saw there was an auction today eight block from my house. The ad said Farmall Cub Tractor, shovel plow for cub, sickle mower for cub and a blade for a cub. Got there the cub was a circle cub. 2043 casting #6-24-Q Hadn't been ran in 15 years. $1150. Sickle mower $150. The pulley sold on the tractor. Blade $45. Has sat out all its life. Plow $325. Depth handle was in iron pile and bracket on draw bar sold with tractor. I drug most of a cultivator out of the iron pile for $60. The planter sold for $45 paint still on the planter box. All have been in the barn but the blade. On a side note I saw a Winchester 22 short repeating arms haven, Model 1873 octagon barrel, lever action go for $3500.00. The guy that bought it said he would have went higher.

This is all that I came home with. I paid $50.00 for most of it. The two shanks standing up in the upper right I had to pay the guy $10.00 that bought the iron pile.
The two push rods in the center I trade the guy that bought the tractor.

When unloading I saw some lettering on the frame.cub 144.

Congrats, Ron!

I went to a garage sale over the weekend. A 1952 Cub, sitting in a shed, hadn't been run in 15 years; four flat tires; seemed complete including stale gas. Had a PO modified front/belly blade (pole ran from front and attached to rear drawbar, still painted white with IH logo), rusty set of cultivators, rusty plow with depth lever, and rusty sickle bar mower (pulley on tractor). Being sold by a young man (divorce situation, I recall). Was his grandfather's tractor; bought and used on that property since early '70's and put away at grandfather's passing in the late 90's. Sentimental value and his uncle in Texas deemed the whole package to be worth $1000. I talked with him on Friday and was interested in the cultivators; came back on Saturday, but he was closed up.

Cub wasn't worth more than $400. So the whole package to me wasn't worth more than $650 tops.
