Mid-July nearly and can't get on the soil. It seemed ok today, hooked up the 12' disk - got out to the field set the angle shallow to test. Slowly increased the angle - yup right up the point I buried the disk and the tractor. Had to unhook the disk, leave it in the field and just barely got the tractor out.

This is an unreal year of wetness on the farm.

What??? No pics??? Sounds like you need to spend a bit more time on Cub restoration.

When you get your cub disk, you'll be able to lightly disk it, to expose more surface area, to the wind, drying it. Within a few days, it will dry enough for the big tractor, to get through. (Don't ask how I know this works) Ed

That's exactly what I am doing at this very moment. No pics - have nightmares about losing my iPhone out somewhere on the farm. When I go with 60' of chain to pull the disk out - I'll get a pic of the Grand Canyon of Altamont. 16.9 x 38 tires carve a pretty good groove in muck.

Won't ask Ed - don't need to. Now - how long do you think it would take me to disk 5 acres with the Cub disk? Answer - I could do 2 acres in the time it's gonna take me to get that disk out of the MUD. :big smirk:

My original post was on July 6th. Just today I was able to get the disk out of the quagmire to finish disking two of our fields. I'll hit them again tomorrow and just possibly we'll plant some fast growing crops this weekend.

It's weather and soil - we're on clay with shale underneath - so when you have 18 inches of rain - it soaks the top soil, gets down the clay layer - makes it way into the shale layer - where it takes forever to work it's way out, albeit slowly. Now we just need the rain to hold off till about noon tomorrow.

Yeh Ken, We have that cussed clay out here to....I have rocks so bad its near impossible to plow, so I resort to building my own brew on top of the existing soil....I'm not nearly in your league, I have only about a 100 x200 garden....Recently I got a tandem load of clay dumped off by a contractor....I told him no rocks and thats what I got...Once he dumped it it was mine...It was clay....So I've been mixing that with various things to make it usable....( Thank god my neighbor has a 3120 Kub...ota with a rototiller on the back....Mostly orchards around me....And Cattle....

If you could persuade some of the cattle, to poop on the clay, that would help, too! Ed

We've started planting sudan grass to build humus in the soil.

Plant it mow it and mow it and mow it.....It grows fast,....
